  • Is Colin Insured?
Yes. All led rides by Colin at Discovery Biking Scotland fall within the guidance of his British Cycling mountain bike leader / coach qualifications and Cycling Scotland GoMTB training. He also holds valid Cycling Activity Provider (CAP) insurance, valid Outdoor Emergency First Aid and PVG (Disclosure Scotland) certification.
  • Can I bring children?
A number of the rides are suitable for children from approximately 7 years+ to undertake as a family ride in which the parent / legal guardian is also participating. However, the child must bring their own bike with pedals and be able to pedal under their own steam for the duration of the booked ride. Please note that each participant on the ride must complete and submit a 'Rider Information & Consent Form' to Colin before being able to take part in the ride.
  • Can I bring pets?
Unfortunately, participants cannot bring their pet(s) on a ride.
  • What kit do I need to bring on a ride?
A list of what to bring is provided on our kit list page.
  • Do I need to wear a helmet?
Yes. If you wish to discuss this requirement, please raise any queries with Colin at the time of booking.
  • Why are the group rides small?
Colin will guide up to 4 adults to maximise your enjoyment on the ride and to minimise the impact on the trails shared by other hill users.
  • Do you offer rides for advanced/expert riders?
Discovery Biking Scotland is focused on giving riders the opportunity to explore and enjoy the scenery of an area while also gaining greater confidence on the bike. However, if you are already a very experienced mountain bike rider and focused less on a leisurely ride and more on taking your biking to the next level through expert coaching, Colin is happy to give you recommendations for mountain bike coaches and providers in the likes of the Scottish Borders.
  • Why pay for a guided/led ride?
That’s a fair question. You may wonder why it’s better to pay for a leader to guide your ride when you can use the likes of Strava, Trailforks or a map! However, over the years I’ve often met riders trying to work out their precise location and the best trail to take when pressed for time or in poor weather conditions. With Colin leading your ride, you can relax and benefit from his local knowledge to guide you along lesser known sections of single track, create interesting loops, find out a little about the areas history and from Edinburgh to the Trossachs and beyond, sniff out great coffee and cake!
